От издателя:
The group MODUS have recorded their first long-playing record at a time when it is clear that the success of the group was not just the sensation of one season, but represents a hard-won, but all the more lasting, popularity with the public.
The group itself has, it is true, undergone many changes, but what has not changed is the conception of their work - the endeavour to present an original repertoire and thus enrich the still not very extensive range of Slovak rock songs. It has been known for some time that the leading personality in the group, pianist and composer Ján Lehotský, is an unusually inventive musician, whose compositions are marked by melodic freshness, directness and a rich rhythmical structure: it was only a question of time as to when he would succeed in finding a suitable formation which would enable him to realize his aims. He found, above all, two suitable voices- M. Gombitová and M. Žbirka, who during their short time in the group have literally shone, so that they are rightly beginning to be regarded as personalities. The group has an excellent vocal basis: in its productions three voices alternate, which produce as interesting sound both as solo voices and together, while each of them - M.Gombitová's beautiful metal-sounding, Žbirka's somewhat boyish and Lehotský's veiled voice - offer a wide range of possibilities within the framework of the various types of rock songs. Mention must also be made of the extraordinary élan with which the group performs at concerts: its musical expression is authentic, original, and therefore it is not surprising that the public identifies itself immediately with its songs. The group has a large number of successful songs in its repertoire; to mention just a few: Smile (Úsmev - the composition won the highest award in the Czechoslovak song-writers’ competition, the Bratislava Lyre, 1977), Girls (Dievčatá), Great Dream of the Sea (Vel'ký sen mora), Turn on the Light (Zažni), Go to Sleep with that Hope (S tou nádejou chod' spat'), Mysterious (Záhadná). With its wide range of concert activities the group has won the favour of the public not only at home, but also in Hungary and Poland. This collection of new compositions by the MODUS ensemble on a long-playing record will certainly come as more than just a small surprise. At the same time it should confirm that this is one of the most interesting groups in the history of Slovak beat music.
East Rock".
