Marián Varga was proclaimed in western world as one of the best Hammond organ players in Europe. It was in 70's, but he got to know that many years after...
Double album Konvergencie is very colorful album with exceedingly wide range of music: it contains elements of modern classical music, improvisation-experimentation with organ (Eufónia), songs (Piesne z kolovrátku) and of course - variation on classical patterns (Suita...). Album is well arranged and balanced, not so heavy and hungus as for example Yes-Tales from Topographic Oceans, but not so easy. It includes four 20-minutes-songs (only - here is tracklist of reedition and it is composite of 3 different titles), which someone could divide in more, but the name of the album speaks clearly - convergence. (Varga always needed to connect different styles.) Some passages seems to be quite long, but later (or sooner) you'll find that it's not boring for any moment. (I'm sure that the beauty is in that strange length.) Varga's style of instrumentation is so convincing and strong, his melodies are so clear and Slavonically lyric that we can't see Varga in a shadow of Keith Emerson. I have to compliment also Varga's bandmates: Frantisek Griglak, Fedor Freso and Dusan Hajek merit approval.
Konvergencie presents top of Collegium Musicum. It comes early for this band, but it is very high, not only in area of classical rock.
This band is an historical band in Czechoslovakia. They was active from 1971 until 1981 with 6 releases plus one live lp. Their style is like ELP with Wakeman, The NICE and clear classical influences. The band was composed by vocals, guitars (Ludovít Nosko); keyboards (Marián Varga); guitars (Karel Witz); bass (Fedor Freso) and drums (Dusan Hájek).
The lp always contain long tracks all composed by Varga that give to compositions solid classical inspirations an example is "Hommage a J.S. Bach" or "Concerto in D" and other tracks, the guitar have much space supported by superb keyboards (hammond, minimoog, piano, spinetta) base and solos. I support people who think this is one of the best east Europe bands of ever.
