Since I heard the record Opus de Jazz for the very first time (more than thirty years ago), it has become something of a "jazz bible" for me! The way in which Milt Jackson, Frank Wess, Hank Jones, and (of course) "Klook" Clarke swing sound, and play together is, in my opinion, still unique in the history of "pick up combo" recordings. And what a beautiful blend of Frank's flute and Milt's vibes! So as soon as I got a chance to play and record with the great "flute-boss" of today, James Newton (who is by tje way also very well known in the world of classical music as virtuoso solist ans respectable composer), I immediately tried to put together a rhythm section that would help us make our dream come true! I was lucky to get N. H. O. Pedersen and Alvin Queen, no doubt one of the greatest rhythm sections in the business! Also, choice of my long-term partner, Zagreb pianist Neven Franges, proved to be a good guess!
Anyway, sit and listen, and I hope you'll enjoy the music as much as we enjoyed playing it!
